Calls to Improve Train Services

On Friday 8 April the Restore Inner West Line community action group once again called on the State Government to reinstate the Liverpool via Regents Park train service as a priority for South West Sydney. The community action group also has stressed that restoring the Inner West Line should be undertaken “before any new Metro line between Bankstown and Liverpool is built.”

The community action group is also concerned regarding recent State Government announcements of an impending shutdown of the Bankstown Line for the construction of the Sydney Metro. The State Government and Transport for NSW has failed to guarantee that Bankstown Line trains west to Cabramatta/Liverpool and north to Lidcombe will continue operate during Metro construction.

Recent correspondence with Transport for NSW has also revealed the State Government’s intention to further cut the Bankstown Line with the planned truncation of services to Cabramatta station. The community action group has also highlighted that, “commuters between Bankstown, Cabramatta and Lidcombe will lose all direct city train services and be forced to make up to 3 interchanges to travel to the CBD.”

The Restore Inner West campaign – founded by Roydon Ng has been actively calling on the State Government to reinstate the Liverpool via Regents Park train service since the disastrous timetable changes in late October 2013. Auburn MP Luke Foley, Bankstown MP Tania Mihailuk, Auburn City Council and Strathfield City Council have also put their support behind this campaign and tabled motions for restoring the Inner West Line.
